Kevin Moore

Founder and CEO, Vooban

Kevin Moore is the founder and chief executive of Vooban, the Quebec City applied AI firm, and a programmer who started coding at 12 and spent seven years on Canadian defence research before starting the company in 2011 (Le Soleil; Vooban).

Growing up in Saint-Anselme

He grew up in Saint-Anselme, Quebec, where as a young boy he talked his father into buying packs of Pope John Paul II cards at a flea market and then sold them door to door at a seniors’ home, a story he later told as a coach at the École d’entrepreneurship de Beauce (Le Soleil). After a college diploma in computer science in 2001, he did an internship in Panama for a development bank, building a system to record the country’s graduates (Vooban; Le Soleil).

From Éclipse Technologies to DMR

Back in Quebec he founded Éclipse Technologies and sold it “for peanuts,” and he has said that he and his partners knew how to code but not how to sell (Le Soleil; Vooban). He then spent seven years as a consultant with DMR, now part of Fujitsu, working for the Department of National Defence at the Valcartier research center on the army’s command, control, and intelligence systems (Le Soleil).

Founding Vooban in Quebec City

Around 2009 he and a colleague began meeting to bring the problem-solving they had seen in defence research to private companies, and in 2011 he founded Vooban by hiring two former colleagues; its name nods to Vauban, the French military engineer whose work influenced the Citadel of Quebec (Le Soleil; Vooban). He built the firm’s culture around a book of 169 principles, inspired by Ray Dalio’s Principles, that every new employee receives (Vooban). He has called his biggest achievement growing the company “while keeping a super fun culture,” and in 2025 he and Hugues Foltz were among the EY Entrepreneur of the Year winners for Eastern Canada (Le Soleil, translated from French; Vooban).
