Łukasz Karwacki is co-founder and chief executive of Sunscrapers, the Warsaw software, data, and AI consultancy for finance and healthcare companies. He started out as a designer, not an engineer (Sunscrapers).
A designer trained in London
Karwacki studied computer graphics at Kingston University London and began his career as a web designer at a creative agency, according to his author biography. Today he runs the company, handles business development, and looks after clients.
Two friends in Warsaw, 2010
Sunscrapers traces its start to 2010, when Karwacki and his friend Przemek Lewandowski, then a designer and a developer, set out to combine what the company calls a Western business mindset with Central European technical skill. The firm grew around Python and Django and now lists more than 40 team members, with clients in the UK, the United States, and Australia (Sunscrapers).
Lessons from startup founders
Much of the firm’s early work was for startups, and Karwacki has written about what he learned from successful founders. “The magic formula that can predict the success or failure of a new business does not exist,” he wrote, arguing that success comes from a team meeting the right moment (Sunscrapers). His posts also cover the dedicated team model and the firm’s long work on product features for the employee performance tool 15Five. Our Sunscrapers review covers its data and AI practice.
