Piotr Niedźwiedź is a co-founder of deepsense.ai, an AI development, implementation and consulting firm in Warsaw, Poland, where he was chief technology officer from 2014 to 2018. He then spun out neptune.ai, a tool for tracking machine learning experiments that began inside deepsense.ai, and led it as chief executive. OpenAI agreed to acquire neptune.ai in December 2025, and he has since joined OpenAI.
Programming Contests and Silicon Valley Internships
He started programming at seven and competed in algorithm contests in high school, which led him to a computer science and mathematics program in Poland. He interned at Facebook and Google and was offered a chance to stay in Silicon Valley. “But something about being a FAANG engineer didn’t feel right,” he told TheSequence. With friends from his contest days he started the software consultancy CodiLime and then its sister company, deepsense.ai.
Seahorse, Neptune and a Kaggle Tool
As CTO he oversaw Seahorse, a visual analytics tool built on Apache Spark, which deepsense.ai made open source after it passed 10,000 users (deepsense.ai). Neptune began when the company’s machine learning engineers showed him a tool they had built to track experiments during a Kaggle competition, which they won. The company launched it at Strata + Hadoop World in New York in 2016, and in 2017 he spun it off as a venture-backed product company. OpenAI, first a Neptune customer, announced its agreement to buy the company on December 3, 2025 (OpenAI).
