Tom Stockton is chief executive and co-founder of Fuzzy Labs, an AI development, implementation and consulting firm in Manchester, England, that he started in 2019 with Matt Squire. His background is in DevOps, and he now focuses on the firm’s commercial and strategic side. “We had this idea before generative AI took off, so we got in a bit early but we didn’t really know what we were doing in terms of running a business day to day,” he told Capsule.
Two Nerds Learning to Sell
He and Squire, self-described nerds with no business experience, started out in a startup incubator, tracked sales in spreadsheets and took outside sales training as the firm grew without external funding. The Fuzzy Labs team page says he is driven by technical excellence over maximizing profit, that his passion outside work is cycling, “preferably up a lot of hills,” and that he uses Vim (Fuzzy Labs).
