Behfar Jahanshahi is the founder and CEO of InterWorks, the data, analytics, and AI consultancy he incorporated in 1996 while a student at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma, and grew into a global firm of about 275 employees (InterWorks).
Starting InterWorks as a student
He has said he loved tinkering with technology and helping others with their technical problems, and he started the company as a side project with friends. In its first years it did whatever IT work clients needed, from running cable to bringing internet to small-town schools (InterWorks).
From IT to data and AI
By 2011 the firm was doing IT, web, and software development for clients across the US when a client pushed it to try the analytics tool Tableau. Data and analytics became its main business, with clients such as Twitter, Google, and Nike and offices in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Atlanta, Europe, Australia, and Singapore (InterWorks).
In October 2026, as InterWorks marked 30 years, Anthropic made it a Claude Select consulting partner for its work deploying and governing Claude for clients (InterWorks). Our InterWorks review covers the firm.
