“We were data science before data science was cool,” Chris Brinton told CIO Review (CIO Review). He is the founder and chief executive of Mosaic Data Science, an AI development, implementation and consulting firm in Leesburg, Virginia, and of its parent company, Mosaic ATM.
Princeton, Stanford and Air Traffic
He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and aerospace engineering at Princeton University and a master’s in electrical engineering at Stanford University. He founded Mosaic ATM in 2004 and leads analytics projects aimed at the efficiency and safety of the US national airspace system (Mosaic Data Science). With NASA research funding, his company built COMETTS, a simulator for training air traffic managers. “Training is really important, especially as aviation technology becomes more and more complicated,” he told NASA (NASA Spinoff 2020).
Taking the Methods to Business
In 2014 he founded Mosaic Data Science with Steve Atkins to bring its forecasting and optimization work to commercial clients. The firm says its data scientists already knew how to pull data from many sources, test algorithms quickly and build production decision support systems from the aviation work (The Silicon Review). He is also chief executive and board chairman of Aerial Vantage, a drone data company in East Lansing, Michigan (Aerial Vantage).
