Steve Atkins is the co-founder and executive vice president of Mosaic Data Science, an AI development, implementation and consulting firm in Leesburg, Virginia. Mosaic describes him as an expert in “decision support, advanced analytics and application of concepts to increase business efficiency” with more than two decades of analytics research behind him (Mosaic Data Science).
Three Degrees From MIT
He holds bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His 1998 doctoral thesis, “A unified methodology for the management of time-dependent information in aeronautical systems,” dealt with information that changes over time in aviation systems (MIT DSpace).
Air Traffic Research to Commercial Data Science
He worked with Chris Brinton at the aviation analytics company Mosaic ATM before the two set up Mosaic Data Science in 2014 to offer the same methods to commercial clients. Mosaic’s team page credits him with numerous scientific publications (Mosaic Data Science). He also sits on the board of Aerial Vantage, the drone data company Brinton leads (Aerial Vantage).
