Nacho De Marco is co-founder and chairman of BairesDev, an AI development, implementation and consulting firm headquartered in San Francisco, California, that he started in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 2009 with Paul Azorin. He led it as chief executive for 17 years and is known for building one of the largest bootstrapped technology companies in the world without raising outside capital.
A Buenos Aires Developer and a Project Too Big for Two
He started as a software developer in Buenos Aires and worked as a project manager and freelance consultant. “In 2009, my friend Paul Azorin and I were working for a client who had a project of a larger scale than what we were used to,” he told Pulse 2.0 in 2024. They needed a team of engineers for it, and that team became BairesDev. He describes the 2009 downturn as the moment he chose to commit to the company fully.
Davos, BDev Ventures and the Chairman’s Seat
BairesDev entered the US market in 2012 with operations in San Francisco and grew into a remote company with more than 4,000 people in over 40 countries. He joined the Forbes Technology Council in 2018, won the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year 2024 Bay Area award and spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2025 (BairesDev). He wrote the book IT Outsourcing to Latin America and runs BDev Ventures, a venture fund for business-to-business companies. As chairman he leads the board and advises chief executive Darren Shimkus.
